As the novel opens, McKenzie is with friends at a local winery. In a flash, a shooter shows up. Nobody seems to know who the shooter is. Forensics are minimal, and McKenzie is asked to team up with the local sheriff to solve this whodunit. Multiple people are interviewed. and the reader is treated to McKenzie's inner thoughts as he hunts down the man responsible for this terrorist act. Mckenzie exhibits his well-known sense of humor and his lack of hubris. In time, McKenzie and the sheriff apprehend the perpetrator. But who he is and his motives remain a secret until the reader finishes this excellent private investigation novel written by one of the leaders in the field.
