A QUIET PLACE
SEICHO MATSUMOTO
A Quiet Place, by accomplished Japanese mystery writer Seicho Matsumoto, is set in Japan in the 1970s. Matsumoto, well known in Japan, brings his work stateside, and readers are in for a treat. But don't let the exotic locale be a discouragement. The book has everything that an outstanding mystery must have. The book concerns Mr Açai, who finds out that his wife died of a heart attack, but where she died is not where she normally went about her business. And, the circumstances of her death, which they say was a heart attack, encourage her husband to hire a detective. The book becomes more jewel-like as the reader gets wrapped up in it. A Quiet Place is worth reading for its unique environment and its international mystery set in a land unknown to most. Do yourself a favor and take a trip to Japan while staying at home.
